Anna Charlotte Schmid, born in Essen, Germany, lives and works in Berlin. After studying ‘Integrated Design’, graduating in photography at Hochschule für Künste Bremen and at Moholy Nagy University of Art and Design in Budapest, she majored in the postgraduate studies in photography at Ostkreuzschule für Fotografie in Berlin.
Since 2014 Anna Charlotte Schmid is the Founder and Director of FOTOTREFF Berlin.
In her work, Schmid is interested in the ‘making of an image’ itself and the underlying processes. Established between staged and documentary, her artistic work focuses on the Human portrait of minorities and the question of individual identity.
She also works for magazines with a special focus on portraits.
Anna Charlotte Schmid received several scholarships and awards, among others Pride Photo Award 2013, Stiftung Kunstfonds (Neustart) Bonn 2020, and presented her works in numerous solo and group exhibitions such as Villa Ichon Bremen 2013, Ministerium für Wissenschaft und Kunst Wiesbaden 2013, nGbK Berlin 2014, Hirado Dutch Trading Post Japan 2014, Martin Gropius Bau Berlin EMOP 2014, Foam Café Amsterdam 2015, Houston FotoFest 2015, aff Galerie 2016 and Between Bridges Berlin 2019.
